We are donors to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, in spite of the fact that we live on the other side of the continent. I had surgery there as a child, and worked in the public relations department as a fresh-out-of-college adult.
Recently, I got a note of thanks from the assistant director of annual giving, thanking us for our donation and offering a personalized tour of the hospital, which I thought was a great gesture.
I am increasingly in love with the city of my birth with each passing year that I spend as a tourist. There’s so much to see, do and experience. So what does it say about me when this note actually made me think, “Ooh! That sounds great!” I mean, who in their right mind would pass up the Philadelphia Museum of Art or my childhood favorite, the Franklin Institute, for a chance to tour a pediatric hospital? And yet, I find myself wondering how to convince my husband that this would be a pleasant diversion.
Then again, considering that my favorite part of the Franklin Institute was walking through the giant heart, I guess I really am a unique sort of medical geek.
