Making Headway On My Website

While I’ve done more than my share of web content, web design, development and coding make me crazy.  Because I don’t do it often, my HTML skills are rusty, and PHP makes me downright insane.

My previous website had been built with Joomla!, and I have to admit that I was frustrated with it and willing to move on before the site even went live.  It may be capable of many things, but not with my level of skill.  There was no doubt in my mind that I was going to abandon Joomla! for something more user-friendly.

I knew that I wanted to work with WordPress, but even WordPress requires some amount of coding to do what you want it to do.  I spent a few frustrating weeks trying to tweak a WordPress theme before I got frustrated and looked for other solutions.  I considered going the SquareSpace route, but don’t need their hosting and management services.  In the end I opted for the Headway premium theme, which may be the best $87 I’ve ever spent on my business.

This website is testament to the fact that the theme is virtually idiot-proof.  It’s almost ridiculously straightforward.  I really like what I’ve been able to do, both in terms of design and SEO, in just a few days.  It’s so intuitive that I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had to look up an answer.  And even better, when I tweeted that I was stuck on one nagging element, the lovely folks at @HeadwayThemes replied within minutes, giving me the answer I needed and proving that you can get useful information from Twitter.

I have no doubt that there are a million other things that Headway can do, and maybe in the future I’ll give it a try, but for now I’m very satisfied with what I’ve been able to accomplish with the basics.
