Work has been extremely uncooperative during the first week of this challenge, but today I decided that if I couldn’t make the time for exercise before my day started, I’d work it into my day. I dug out the resistance band and worked my biceps, triceps and shoulders while I talked on conference calls. No, it doesn’t burn nearly the same calories as a three mile run, but it’s something, and today I just needed that feeling of finding a creative solution.
I tried a new recipe tonight. I made potato leek soup with kielbasa, a soup that wasn’t terribly high in fat because it didn’t use any milk or cream. I could have done without the sausage (actually, I did end up eating around the meat), but it did give it a nice smoky flavor.
Tomorrow night is my monthly Cooking Club meeting, and I’ll be making lemon pound cake for dessert, plus triple-chocolate cookies for the holiday exchange. Cooking is a wonderful hobby. Unlike other creative pursuits that take weeks or months, like writing, cooking lets you start and finish a project in the same day. Sometimes after spinning my wheels with work, it’s good to have that feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day.
