I'd like to say that I can kick that high, but no.
I walked through the door of the kickboxing studio and was pleasantly surprised to discover that the instructor seemed genuinely happy that I had returned. I explained that I wanted to give it a month to see if I could conquer it (or if it would conquer me) and she graciously offered to let me attend her class twice a week for a month at no charge. Now I simply have to go; how could I pass up such a good deal?
One of the great marvels of kickboxing is the calorie burn. I went back to tracking my eating and fitness on The Daily Plate, and was startled to discover that 60 minutes of kickboxing clocks in at a 768 calorie burn. I was operating on negative calories until halfway through lunchtime. It’s also nice to go through a whole day of eating, be able to hit the frozen yogurt shop and still net out to under 1,200 calories for the day.
The other great aspect of kickboxing is the awesome upper body workout. Relying on running and Pilates has been fine for lower body and core strength, but I haven’t done a serious upper body workout on a regular basis for some time. It will be interesting to see if twice a week is enough to notice a difference.
I did a lot of writing and research today in preparation for the onslaught of projects.
Lots of cooking today. I picked up a last-minute meal delivery for a new mom after her scheduled meal-maker fell ill with the flu. I scaled up the recipe that I had already planned to make, Peruvian chicken, and sent it along with a mismatched side dish of asparagus salad. Hey, you work with what you have when you’re operating on short notice.
Tonight will be an “off” night, reserved for reading after the kiddo goes to bed. The April book club selection is The Help, and even though our meeting isn’t until the end of the month, I need to get finished early so that I can pass the book along to a friend.
yahooo!!! Free Kickboxing–you go, girl!
