Summer conservation

Last updated on February 2, 2023

After a prolonged cool spring, summer finally and suddenly arrived in the form of 100-degree days. I work from home. I don’t want to swelter while I work, but it seems completely absurd to cool an entire house to benefit one person in one room.

And so, I go to Peet’s. I call it “airpooling.” In the same way that you can save gasoline through carpooling, I save electricity by airpooling.

I love my Peet’s anyway. The staffers are great and I know most of the regulars. But the best part is that they keep it as cold as a meat locker on hot summer days.

So now I can justify my visits as more than just an afternoon caffeine fix: it’s my contribution to the environment.
